Inside the Globe
The Stage & The Heavens
The iconic Globe stage juts out into the yard, creating an intimate relationship between actors and audience. Above it are "the Heavens," a canopy painted with stars, the sun, and the moon, from which characters could be lowered. Two large oak pillars, each made from a single tree, support this structure.
The Yard (Groundlings)
The cheapest and most authentic way to see a play. The yard is the open-air standing area surrounding the stage. It offers the closest views of the action, but be prepared for the weather and to be on your feet for the duration of the show. There is a capacity for 700 groundlings.
The Galleries
Three tiers of covered seating wrap around the theatre. These wooden benches offer a more comfortable, seated experience with protection from the rain. The back row of each gallery has a backrest. You can hire cushions for extra comfort for a small fee.
How to Get Here
Shakespeare's Globe is located at 21 New Globe Walk, London, SE1 9DT, on the South Bank of the River Thames.
- By Underground (Tube): The nearest stations are London Bridge (Jubilee and Northern lines, 15 min walk), Blackfriars (District and Circle lines, 10 min walk), and Mansion House (District and Circle lines, 10 min walk).
- By Train: London Bridge, Blackfriars, Cannon Street and Waterloo are all within walking distance.
- By Bus: Routes 45, 63, 100, 344, and 381 stop near the theatre.
- By Boat: The Uber Boat by Thames Clippers service stops at Bankside Pier, directly outside the Globe.
