To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please familiarise yourself with our visitor rules.

Shakespeare's Globe is a unique venue, and some of our rules are specific to the nature of the open-air theatre. Please read the following guidelines on bags, photography, and what to do in case of rain. For more information, you can also consult our visitors guide.

Bag Policy

Bag sizes are strictly limited to 40cm x 35cm x 19cm. Oversized bags cannot be admitted or stored on site. All bags are subject to search upon entry.

Photography & Recording

The use of cameras, video recorders, or any recording devices is not permitted during performances. Still photography without flash may be allowed before or after the show, at the discretion of staff.

Weather & Umbrellas

Performances continue in all but the most extreme weather conditions. Umbrellas are strictly forbidden inside the theatre as they block the view for others. Please wear a raincoat.

Food & Drink

You are welcome to bring food and drink into the theatre. However, glass and porcelain items are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clarifying the details.

What happens if my bag is too big?
Unfortunately, if your bag exceeds the maximum dimensions (40cm x 35cm x 19cm), you will not be able to bring it inside. The Globe cannot store oversized items, so you will need to use an off-site luggage storage facility.
Are latecomers admitted?
Latecomers are admitted only at a suitable break in the performance, which may be the interval. To avoid missing any of the show, please ensure you arrive on time.
Can I smoke at the theatre?
Shakespeare's Globe is a smoke-free venue. This includes e-cigarettes and vaping. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the site.
Can I leave and re-enter the theatre during a performance?
Yes, you are allowed to come and go as you please during the performance. Simply show your ticket to the stewards to be readmitted.
